CEI also does extensive distribution modeling and master planning. For example, CEI was hired by the Town of Hadley, Massachusetts in 2003 to prepare a comprehensive Water Supply Master Plan to prepare for future growth and to be able to make the most cost-effective choices for sources, pipe replacements and treatment options for its four water supply wells.
CEI first prepared a comprehensive Water Supply Master Plan by working with the Water and Fire Departments to identify deficiencies. CEI then modeled the system, including the development of nodes and lines and then used Water CAD for system modeling. During the Master Plan, the town sampled for and found perchlorate contamination. CEI then evaluated the options for either treatment of the perchlorate or treatment of two large rarely used wells that had significant manganese contamination. CEI prepared cost estimates and then submitted an SRF application for the town's chosen Ultrafiltration plant to treat the larger manganese contaminated wells.

The map above was prepared to help the Selectmen acting as Water Commissioners decide how to site a new treatment facility and to provide information on the cost-effectiveness of treating for perchlorate or addressing the long-standing problem with two of the largest capacity wells that had high manganese.
