With assistance from CEI, the Town of Amesbury received a grant from the U.S. EPA and MA DEP s.319 Nonpoint Source Pollution Grant Program to improve the water quality entering Lake Attitash, a drinking water source for the Town. The project goal was to improve water quality and reduce stormwater impacts to Lake Attitash through the design and implementation of structural and non-structural Best Management Practices (BMPs). Design of cost-effective structural BMPs and associated plans and specifications to reduce sediment and nutrient loading resulting from direct discharges to Lake Attitash. The project included:
  • Development of a state and federally approved Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) to determine BMP effectiveness.

  • Prioritization of additional storm discharges with recommended treatment options for future water quality improvements and grant opportunities.

  • Preparation of a public outreach and education restoration activities seminar for area residents on Lake Attitash and non-point source issues.
