A CEI designed transfer station and landfill closure in Scituate, Massachusetts.
CEI offers a variety of solid waste related services to municipalities, manufacturers and waste management companies.  Our engineers have dealt with all aspects of solid waste, from management of residential disposal and "Pay as You Throw" programs to landfill closure and transfer station design.  CEI has performed feasibility studies of the best options, providing detailed comparisons and present worth analysis so that communities and companies can make the best long-term decisions.  We also currently monitor gas and groundwater at many sites as part of ongoing programs.  With each endeavor, CEI has characteristically studied the options and how our own and others' designs might be improved and updated as time goes on, preferring not to use the cookie cutter approach but instead to carefully tailor our designs to the situation and needs of the client.

CEI's typical services include:
  • Feasibility studies & Preliminary Designs

  • Contamination and closure investigations

  • Full permitting for continued operations or closure

  • Preparation of RFPs for services (i.e., solid waste pick up, hauling or disposal)

Understanding

CEI recognizes the difficulty that towns have in dealing with solid waste, and we work hard to minimize our client's costs through innovative transfer station design methods and closure plans.

Reducing Costs

As the client's advocate, it is our job to minimize our client's costs by limiting the scope of work to only what is needed to meet permit and other regulatory requirements. For example, the number of ground water and gas monitoring wells needed around a landfill can often be limited by careful placement, and the cost savings over the required 30 year monitoring period can be significant. Closure costs can also be reduced by modifying the sequencing plan.

Saving Time

Our extensive regulatory knowledge, combined with our ability to quickly respond to emergency projects, often leads to reduced costs and permitting requirements.
