Case Study -
Crossing Route 3A with an
8-inch Water Main

CEI can perform a variety of civil engineering work related to infrastructure. We have designed wash bays for highway facilities, performed infrastructure inventories for asset studies, and created operations and maintenance schedules for public works. One recent project involved directional boring, shown above. This project was completed for the Town of Scituate, Massachusetts, and involved the crossing of a major state highway with a water main to transport water from one well to the existing treatment plant. A previous consultant had recommended that the well be treated with green sand and/or blended with another well. CEI's evaluation of existing data and resampling indicated that the water is highly colored and that neither green sand nor blending would be effective. However, the water treatment plant was designed to accommodate high color and could be used to treat the well instead.
